The Canary Smart Meter Solution is a cost effective customizable solution designed to meet the needs of handling the data from today's electric and gas smart meters. It provides data collection and storage with long term data management. The data can be used to generate reports and can also be used to generate web pages to provide information to the consumer.

High Performance at a Low Cost

Smart meter data is stored using our patent pending Canary Enterprise Historian technology in a time series database specially designed to store and retrieve data quickly and efficiently. As an example, storing data from 650,000 smart meters that report usage every 15 minutes would use only 11GB of disk space in a month. When compared to traditional SQL databases, this is 1/10th the amount of disk space that would be required. Logging and updating performance is typically 10 to 100 times faster. And retrieval time is very fast. The time required to read the data from 100 smart meters over a 2 year period (over 7 million values) was 12 seconds.

This efficiency allows the use of low cost servers and data storage equipment. Servers in this category are in the $4K price range. This also reduces the cost of adding redundancy and additional storage.
