Company Profile - PXP (Arguello, Inc.)

Arguello Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Plains Exploration and Production ("PXP"), with field headquarters 30 miles west of Santa Barbara, California, is actively involved in the production and transportation of crude oil. Arguello Inc. acquired interest in three offshore platforms and an onshore oil heating facility in 1999 comprising the Point Arguello Project.

Situation

Arguello had a need for the platforms and offices to have access to both real-time and historical data. They also had a need to improve accessibility to historical data from their existing Intellution HMI system. Affordability and usability were key in the selection of Canary Labs.

Operating an oil platform is a complex environment and costly. In addition, located off the coast of California, Arguello has to meet very strict EPA and State requirements. Therefore, visibility into the operations of the platform has to be reliable. The system had to be fully redundant and independent to the Intellution system to ensure users will still have access to the historical and current data in the event the HMI went down for any reason.

Outcome

PXP Arguello's operators now have network wide visibility of real-time & historical data, and access to all annotations describing situation that have happen with resolution, through our High Availability solution. In addition, leveraging our ActiveX Controls, operators can pull up the historical data from the HMI screens improving time to resolution. This enables Arguello to be more proactive, ensuring maximum efficiency and safety.

"The Canary trending software is a valuable tool and a real help for starting new wells and bringing them into production."
